Gita Rasaili Continues Fight for Transitional Justice in Nepal, Supported by UN Women
Gita Rasaili, a survivor of Nepal's 1996–2006 armed conflict, continues her advocacy for transitional justice, focusing on truth, accountability, and dignity for victims. Her personal experiences, including the deaths of her brother and sister during the conflict, fuel her commitment. As Chairperson of the Conflict Victim Women National Network (CVWN), Rasaili works to ensure that conflict-affected women influence decisions regarding truth, reparation, and peacebuilding. Her advocacy is rooted in addressing the intersection of caste, gender, and poverty, which often diminishes the voices of marginalized survivors. UN Women has supported Rasaili's efforts, including through training programs that helped her recognize the shared suffering of victims regardless of their affiliation during the conflict. The organization also works to promote and strengthen women's leadership in Nepal to ensure their equal rights in nation-building.
