Driver Charged with OUI After Fiery Crash Kills Father and Daughter in North Reading, Massachusetts
A 21-year-old driver, Matthew Sweeney of Paxton, Massachusetts, has been charged with felony motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence (OUI), and operating to endanger following a fiery crash in North Reading. The incident occurred late Saturday night when Sweeney, driving an Acura MDX at high speeds on Route 28, collided with a Honda HR-V that was stopped at a red light. The impact caused the Honda to become engulfed in flames. The two occupants of the Honda, 35-year-old Samir Naili and his 8-year-old daughter, Kashmera Naili, both from Andover, died at the scene. Responding crews and good Samaritans attempted to rescue them but were unsuccessful due to the rapid spread of the fire. Sweeney was arrested at the scene and is scheduled for arraignment in Woburn District Court.
