BRICS Nations Unanimously Oppose EU Carbon Border Tax, Citing Unilateral and Discriminatory Practices
BRICS nations, including India, China, Russia, South Africa, and Brazil, have collectively voiced strong opposition to the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). This stance was formalized in a joint ministerial statement adopted unanimously at the conclusion of the group’s 12th environment ministers’ meeting. The CBAM, which became operational on January 1, is designed to impose a border tax on carbon-intensive goods, such as iron, steel, aluminum, and cement, entering the 27 EU member states.
