University of Tulsa Highlights Cybersecurity Workforce Shortage Amid Rising Threats
A recent panel discussion at the University of Tulsa, attended by approximately 400 people, underscored the critical need for cybersecurity professionals as cyber attacks increasingly impact businesses. According to David Keely, executive director of the Oklahoma Cyber Innovation Institute, cybersecurity now represents the largest source of financial loss for businesses, surpassing traditional threats like floods or theft. The industry currently faces a significant workforce gap, with 4.8 million job vacancies. Keely emphasized the vulnerability of small businesses, which often lack the resources to hire cybersecurity experts, making them susceptible to devastating malware attacks. The event also featured discussions on the role of artificial intelligence in the workforce, with experts noting that while AI will transform tasks, human adaptability remains crucial.
