Trump praised Giant Eagle for responding to his call to lower costs for working families, likening their actions to those of Walmart, which he also claimed to have influenced. However, Giant Eagle had announced its pricing initiative, 'On Sale This Season,' on July 9, as part of a strategy to combat inflation, independent of Trump's claims. The initiative is part of Giant Eagle's 'Because It Matters' strategy, aimed at maintaining stable prices for essential goods. Despite Trump's assertions, Giant Eagle's spokesperson confirmed that the pricing initiative was launched prior to his comments.
