Senator Baldwin Secures Over $1 Billion in Federal Funding for Blatnik Bridge Replacement
U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) has played a pivotal role in securing over $1 billion in federal funding for the replacement of the John A. Blatnik Bridge. This significant investment, sourced from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will facilitate the replacement of the aging bridge connecting Superior, Wisconsin, and Duluth, Minnesota. The project, estimated at $1.8 billion, also received commitments of $400 million each from the legislatures of Minnesota and Wisconsin. A groundbreaking ceremony was held, attended by various officials including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, marking the official commencement of the construction phase. The current bridge is expected to remain operational until early 2027, with the new bridge projected to open in the fall of 2031. The project is a collaborative effort between state and federal entities, aiming to modernize critical infrastructure in the Upper Midwest.
