U.S. Funding Cuts Significantly Impact Lutheran World Federation's Global Aid Operations
The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) World Service, a global humanitarian and development organization, has experienced significant impacts due to cuts in U.S. government funding. According to Maria Immonen, director of LWF World Service, these cuts have reduced their global budget by approximately 15 percent. The reduction in U.S. grants, which often included administrative overhead, disproportionately affected the organization's global coordination structures, leading to a 25 percent cut in these areas. Consequently, LWF World Service has had to restructure several country programs and its headquarters, resulting in the layoff of at least 300 staff members.
