Pirates Hijack Cement Vessel Off Somalia, Raising Maritime Security Concerns
A cargo vessel carrying cement, flying the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis, has been hijacked off the coast of Somalia near the town of Garacad in the Puntland region. The ship, which was en route from Egypt to Mombasa, Kenya, was seized by nine pirates. This incident marks the second hijacking in the area within a week, following the capture of an oil tanker. The Puntland Maritime Police Force is monitoring the situation, and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations has confirmed the hijacking. The resurgence of piracy in the region, once a global hotspot for such activities, is causing alarm among international maritime security agencies.
