Cost-of-Living Crisis in Australia Forces Young Adults to Delay Dental Care, Leading to Health Risks
The Australian Dental Association (ADA) reports that the cost-of-living crisis is causing young Australians, particularly those aged 18 to 25, to postpone routine dental care. This delay is leading to severe dental issues and costly medical emergencies. Many young adults, after moving out and losing parental health insurance, are unable to afford regular dental check-ups. The ADA highlights that around 60% of this age group has experienced wisdom tooth problems, exacerbated by the financial burden of dental care. The ADA is advocating for a new National Oral Health Plan to address these issues, as the previous strategy expired in 2024.
