Turkish Fishing Boat Attacked in Black Sea, Resulting in Sailor's Death
A Turkish-flagged fishing boat, the Duru 67, was attacked and sank off the northern Black Sea coast, resulting in the death of one sailor and injuries to four others. The incident occurred west of Sevastopol in Crimea, a region annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014. The Turkish Coast Guard reported that the injured sailors were rescued by another trawler, the Burak Kaya, and were later transferred to a hospital in Kastamonu, Turkey. The sailors suffered shrapnel wounds, with one undergoing minor surgery. The attack adds to the ongoing tensions in the Black Sea, where shipping has been frequently targeted since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022. No group has claimed responsibility for this attack.
