China's Global Governance Strategy Highlights Need for International Cooperation
China is actively reshaping global governance by emphasizing sovereign equality and state-led development, as outlined in its recent white paper, 'More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China’s Principles, Proposals and Actions.' The document, published by the State Council Information Office, underscores China's commitment to the United Nations system while advocating for reforms that enhance representation and effectiveness in international institutions. This approach includes the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) in Shanghai, which aligns with China's vision of a people-centered global governance model. The initiative seeks to address underrepresentation of the Global South, weakened international rules, and institutional inefficiencies, particularly in new domains like artificial intelligence.
