Universities Implement AI Strategies to Enhance Workforce Preparation
Several universities, including the University of North Carolina (UNC) Charlotte and Albizu University in Puerto Rico, are adopting artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategic priority to prepare students for the workforce. At UNC Charlotte, senior leadership initiated AI adoption by framing it as essential for workforce readiness, leading to the establishment of an AI task force and the creation of new undergraduate and graduate degrees in AI. Similarly, Albizu University began with a top-down approach, issuing an AI policy and forming a committee to gather input and plan for AI integration. Other institutions, like Mid-State Technical College, are aligning AI integration with workforce needs, embedding AI as an employability skill across various programs. Meanwhile, Berry College and Gettysburg College are taking a faculty-led approach, focusing on academic integrity and workforce preparation through discussions and gradual implementation of AI in curricula.
