Historic Phoenix Building Transformed into Workforce and Small Business Training Hub
A historic building in central Phoenix, the former First National Bank of Arizona building near 24th and Washington streets, is being revitalized into the Arizona Legacy Center. This architectural landmark, built in 1966, had been vacant for years after a 2018 fire and was surrounded by a large homeless encampment. Through significant private investment and collaboration with the City of Phoenix and Phoenix Police Department, the building has been restored. Dr. Velma Trayham, president and CEO of the Black Chamber of Arizona, describes the center as an urban training facility aimed at creating job opportunities and fostering entrepreneurial growth. The center will offer training, business resources, networking, capital access, contracting opportunities, and connections with companies and decision-makers. Its location near a Valley Metro light rail stop is intended to remove transportation barriers for underserved communities.
