Rep. Greg Smith's Ethics Investigation Delayed Until After Primary Election
Rep. Greg Smith, a Republican from Heppner, Oregon, is currently under investigation by the Oregon Government Ethics Commission for alleged ethics violations. The commission was expected to present its findings at a meeting, but Smith's attorney requested a time waiver to explore settlement negotiations, delaying any public discussion until after the May primary election. Smith is accused of taking pay from his work on a public development authority while simultaneously working for his consulting business and serving as a state legislator. The commission has 180 days to complete its investigation, which began in October. Smith is running for reelection against Jim Doherty, who has made Smith's ethics issues a focal point of his campaign.
