Orange County Officials Declare Evacuated Areas Safe for Return Amid Chemical Crisis
In Orange County, California, officials have announced that the majority of the 50,000 residents evacuated due to a damaged chemical tank can safely return to their homes. The evacuation was initially prompted by fears of a potential explosion at an aerospace facility in Garden Grove. Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong, the county health officer, assured residents that there was no contamination, fumes, or vapors released from the incident. Although the immediate danger has subsided, a smaller evacuation zone remains in place for about 16,000 people as a precaution. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, particularly the temperature of the chemical tank, which has decreased from a peak of 100 degrees to around 50 degrees. Efforts to stabilize the tank continue, with officials checking temperatures every 30 minutes and using millions of gallons of water to cool it.
