Increase in Jellyfish Stings Reported at Ocean City Beaches
Ocean City, Maryland, has seen a rise in jellyfish stings, particularly from sea nettles, along its beaches. Beach Patrol lifeguards have been actively treating swimmers for stings, which typically cause redness, rash, itching, or irritation. According to Ocean City Beach Patrol Capt. Butch Arbin, these jellyfish are not as dangerous as those found in Florida or Australia, such as the Portuguese man-of-war. While most stings are not serious, individuals experiencing breathing difficulties or nausea are advised to seek medical attention.
