Tom Steyer Invests $75K in Social Media Campaign to Boost Gubernatorial Bid
Billionaire Tom Steyer has invested $75,000 in social media promotions to enhance his campaign for California governor. The funds were distributed between two popular social media accounts: The Shade Room and Foos Gone Wild. The Shade Room, known for its cultural and news content, received $25,000 to promote Steyer's campaign, highlighting his endorsement by the Black Women's Collective PAC and his stance on issues like reparations and economic empowerment for Black women. Foos Gone Wild, a meme account, was paid $50,000 for an interview with Steyer, which included a humorous segment known as the 'sock check.' These payments were part of Steyer's strategy to appeal to Gen Z voters through online platforms. The financial disclosures were made in Steyer's latest campaign filings, which cover spending up to May 16.
