IRS Reports $5.3 Trillion Tax Revenue Collection in Fiscal Year 2025
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released its 2025 Data Book, highlighting significant achievements in tax collection and enforcement. During fiscal year 2025, the IRS processed 271.4 million federal tax returns, including 162.8 million individual income tax returns, resulting in over $5.3 trillion in tax revenue. The IRS also closed nearly 1.6 million cases of noncompliance through its Automated Underreporter and Automated Substitute for Return Programs, leading to additional assessments of $8.8 billion. The agency completed 2,850 criminal investigations, focusing on legal-source tax crimes, illegal-source financial crimes, and narcotics-related financial crimes. Despite budget and personnel cutbacks, the IRS maintained its operations, with customer service representatives handling 18.6 million calls and assisting nearly 2 million taxpayers at Taxpayer Assistance Centers.
