Former Costa Mesa Officer Pleads Guilty to Misusing Law Enforcement Database and Harassment
Robert Jay Josett, a former police officer from Costa Mesa, has pleaded guilty to several misdemeanor charges, including unauthorized computer access, fraud, and repeated phone calls. Josett admitted to using confidential law enforcement databases to track a woman with whom he had an extramarital relationship, as well as his wife. Over a nine-month period, he contacted the woman more than 100 times a day, violating a restraining order by driving by her house after being notified of his impending termination from the Costa Mesa Police Department. Josett was sentenced to three years of informal probation and ordered to complete a 52-week domestic violence program. He had previously spent nine months wearing a GPS ankle monitor following his arrest.
