Rishi Sunak Rules Out Immediate Return to Frontline Politics, Focuses on Academia and Consulting
Rishi Sunak, the former Prime Minister, has stated he will not immediately return to frontline politics. Instead, he is focusing on teaching and consulting roles. He has taken up positions at Oxford University's Blavatnik School of Government and the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Sunak, born in Southampton, England, to Indian parents, served as Chancellor of the Exchequer during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he introduced the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, also known as furlough. This scheme, which paid up to 80 percent of employees' wages during lockdowns, was credited with preventing mass unemployment and significantly raised his public profile. His parents, who emigrated from East Africa, were a general practitioner and a pharmacist. Sunak's academic background includes Oxford University and an MBA from Stanford University, where he met his wife, Akshata Murty. His political career saw him become the first British Asian and Hindu Prime Minister.
