Latin America and Caribbean Mobilize Nearly $2 Billion for Nature Conservation
Latin American and Caribbean nations have collectively unlocked nearly $2 billion for nature conservation since 2018, demonstrating a significant regional effort to integrate biodiversity into economic and financial strategies. This initiative, supported by the UNDP's Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), involves governments reshaping public spending, including redirecting environmentally harmful subsidies, and designing new incentives for nature-positive investments in sectors like agriculture and green enterprises. The region's finance and environment ministries, development banks, and financial institutions are collaborating to expand public, private, and community finance for biodiversity.
