Strong NE Winds and Rough Seas Expected Off Massachusetts
The National Weather Service has issued a marine forecast for the coastal waters of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, highlighting strong northeast winds and rough seas in the coming days. Starting Monday, September 21, 2026, winds are expected to reach 15-20 knots with gusts up to 30 knots, accompanied by seas ranging from 2 to 4 feet. Conditions will intensify on Tuesday and Wednesday, with winds increasing to 25-30 knots and gusts up to 40 knots, and seas building to 9-13 feet by midweek. A Gale Watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon for several areas, including waters south of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Mariners are advised to exercise caution as patchy fog and reduced visibility of 1 to 3 nautical miles are also expected, along with a chance of rain and showers.
