Ship Operator and Employee Charged in Baltimore Bridge Collapse, Highlighting Safety Failures
Federal prosecutors have indicted the Singapore-based operator of the cargo ship Dali and a key employee following the deadly collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The incident, which occurred on March 26, 2024, resulted in the deaths of six construction workers. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) found that electrical blackouts, caused by a loose wire and fuel pump issues, disabled the ship's controls, leading to the crash. The indictment charges Synergy Marine Pte Ltd., Synergy Maritime Pte Ltd., and Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair, the technical superintendent, with conspiracy, obstruction, and false statements. The crash has had significant economic repercussions, halting shipping at the Port of Baltimore and causing widespread disruption.
