Israel Faces Increasing Brain Drain as Educated Citizens Emigrate
A recent report from the Knesset Research and Information Center highlights a growing trend of emigration from Israel, particularly among young, educated citizens. The report, prepared by Dr. Ayala Eliyahu, indicates that since 2022, more Israelis have been leaving the country than returning, with a significant portion being young adults and families. The data shows that in 2023, 51,000 veteran Israelis, defined as those born in Israel or having lived there for at least five years, emigrated, marking a 53% increase from 2021. The report also notes a high percentage of emigrants holding advanced degrees, with 33.2% having a bachelor's degree and 23.5% a master's degree. The findings challenge previous claims by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the emigration was primarily due to recent Ukrainian immigrants.
