National Poll Reveals Widespread Voter Anxiety Over Rights and Democracy Ahead of 2026 Midterm Elections
A new national poll, the Civil Rights Monitor, commissioned by The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and conducted by Brilliant Corners Research, indicates significant voter anxiety regarding their rights and the state of American democracy. The survey, which polled 1,000 likely voters between August 23 and September 6, 2026, found that 82% of voters are concerned about their rights and freedoms being eroded, marking a record high for the poll series. Additionally, 76% believe democracy is under major threat. Key findings highlight that 77% of voters are worried about political leaders pressuring election officials to alter outcomes, and 65% fear the federal government might attempt to halt elections by declaring a state of emergency.
