Twin Sisters Discover Different Fathers Through DNA Test, Unveiling Rare Genetic Phenomenon
Michelle and Lavinia Osbourne, twin sisters from the UK, have discovered through DNA testing that they have different fathers, a rare occurrence known as heteropaternal superfecundation. This phenomenon occurs when a woman releases multiple eggs in one cycle, which are fertilized by sperm from different men. The sisters, who were born minutes apart, are technically half-sisters. Their discovery was made after years of uncertainty about their parentage, which was initially believed to be the same man, James. The revelation came after Michelle took a DNA test in 2021, which coincided with the death of their mother. The test results showed that Michelle's father was actually Alex, a family acquaintance, while Lavinia's father was identified as Arthur, a man living in West London. This case is reportedly the first documented instance of heteropaternal superfecundation in the UK.
