Massachusetts Maritime Academy Cadets Receive Honorable Mention for Innovative Power Solution
A team of six cadets from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy has been recognized with an Honorable Mention at the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) Paper Night held at MIT. The cadets, Jackson Perrault, Colby Townsend, Nico Restrepo, Tiernan Moran, Devlin Keon, and Hung Tran, presented a paper titled 'Bulk Carrier to Mobile Powerplant: Designing Alternate Power Solutions.' Their research focused on the feasibility of converting a bulk carrier into a mobile powerplant, which could provide electrical power to coastal and island regions during infrastructure disruptions or in areas with limited grid connectivity. Dr. James McKenna, the dean of undergraduate studies at the academy, praised the cadets for their dedication and technical skills.
