Ukraine and Russia Trade Accusations Over Violations of Orthodox Easter Ceasefire
Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of violating a ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the Orthodox Easter weekend. The ceasefire was intended to last from Saturday afternoon to Sunday evening, but both sides reported numerous violations. Ukraine's military recorded 2,299 violations, including drone strikes and shelling, while Russia reported 1,971 violations, accusing Ukraine of artillery and drone attacks. The ceasefire was seen as a potential step towards peace, but skepticism remains high. The conflict, which began with Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has seen multiple failed attempts at negotiation, further complicated by the recent Middle East conflict.
