Guardant Health's Liquid Biopsy Test Validated for Melanoma Recurrence Prediction
Guardant Health, Inc. announced that results from its COSMOS-MEL01 study have been published in Cancer Research Communications. This study validates the utility of the Guardant Reveal™ liquid biopsy test for detecting molecular residual disease (MRD) and predicting recurrence in patients with resected stage II–III melanoma. The study, which is the first prospective, multicenter evaluation of this tissue-free, epigenomic blood test in resected melanoma, analyzed 280 longitudinal surveillance samples from 48 patients. Key findings indicate that circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) detection after surgery was strongly associated with recurrence and melanoma-related death. The Guardant Reveal test demonstrated 81% sensitivity for distant recurrences and 100% specificity in post-treatment samples from recurrence-free patients. Notably, ctDNA detection often preceded clinical identification of recurrence by a median of 70.5 days. This suggests the test can provide earlier identification of high-risk patients.
