China's National People's Congress Appoints New Agriculture and Emergency Management Ministers Amid Leadership Rotation
China's top legislative body, the National People's Congress Standing Committee, has appointed Zhang Zhu as the new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Zhang Chengzong as the Minister of Emergency Management. This decision, announced on April 30, is part of a broader leadership rotation within the central government. Zhang Zhu, who previously served as the deputy party secretary of Xinjiang and party secretary of Urumqi, replaces Han Jun, who served less than two years in the role. Zhang Chengzong, who has a background in regional leadership roles in Liaoning and Hebei, takes over from Wang Xiangxi, who was under investigation. These appointments reflect ongoing changes in China's central government leadership, aiming to bring experienced regional officials into key cabinet positions.
