Alameda County Approves $1.5 Million Initiative for LGBTQ+ Health Services Amid Federal Funding Cuts
The Alameda County Board of Supervisors has approved a $1.5 million initiative aimed at expanding resources for LGBTQ+ individuals within the county. This funding, derived from Measure W, will be allocated to the LGBTQ Community Center, an Oakland-based nonprofit. The initiative is designed to provide a range of services, including gender-affirming healthcare, mental health support, crisis response and prevention services, and healthcare navigation for nonbinary and LGBTQIA+ residents. This local funding comes at a critical time for the center, which recently lost a $600,000 federal grant that previously supported mental health services and rental assistance.
