U.S. Representative Judy Chu Addresses Young Leaders Program on Activism and Urban Planning
U.S. Representative Judy Chu, a UCLA alumna, recently spoke to students participating in the 'UCLA Young Leaders at PCC' program. This ten-day camp, held at Pasadena City College, engaged middle school students from the Pasadena Unified School District in a place-based action civics experience. The program integrated history-social science, science, and Design-Based Learning to encourage students to reimagine urban planning and address real-world issues such as homelessness, climate change, sustainability, food scarcity, and disaster recovery within their city. Representative Chu shared her personal journey as an activist in Monterey Park, where she successfully organized against a discriminatory bill targeting the Chinese American community.
