ITU Secretary-General Highlights AI's Transformative Impact and Gender Disparity in Tech Leadership
ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin has emphasized the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors, including work, learning, governance, and innovation. While acknowledging the extraordinary opportunities AI presents, she also raised critical questions regarding fairness, trust, and inclusion within its development and deployment. Bogdan-Martin highlighted a significant gender disparity in the AI workforce, noting that women constitute less than 30 percent of the global AI workforce and only about 15 percent of leadership positions in the field. This trend extends to national information and communication technology (ICT) ministers and heads of ICT regulators, where women hold 20 and 23 percent of positions, respectively.
