Bepza Economic Zone in Mirsarai Attracts $130 Million Investment, Eyes $2.9 Billion Potential
The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza) Economic Zone in Mirsarai, Chittagong, has attracted $130 million in investment even before the completion of its development project. This investment has already generated $52.82 million in exports and created jobs for 5,074 Bangladeshi citizens. The zone is expanding beyond the traditional ready-made garment sector to include high-tech products such as drones, pharmaceuticals, and eco-friendly goods. As of mid-July, 63 local and foreign companies have signed lease agreements to invest a total of $1.49 billion in the zone. The project, which began in 2018, was completed last June, costing less than initially budgeted. Bepza officials anticipate that full operations could attract $2.9 billion in investment and create 500,000 jobs.
