NATO and EU Urged to Develop Unified Strategy for Sahel Region Amidst Russian Influence and Security Threats
NATO and the European Union are being called upon to formulate a cohesive strategy for the Sahel region, recognizing the interconnectedness of security challenges across their southern and eastern flanks. The current approach, characterized by uncoordinated and fragmented Western actions, has created a vacuum that Russia and jihadist groups are exploiting. The article highlights that previous interventions, such as Operation Barkhane, have not yielded lasting solutions, and a mere repetition of such efforts is not feasible. Instead, a new approach is needed that combines military actions with political reforms, development, and counter-radicalization efforts.
