Lutheran Services in Iowa Opens Permanent Greenhouse for Refugee Farmers
Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) has inaugurated a permanent greenhouse for its Global Greens program, which supports immigrant and refugee farmers. Located at the former Dogpatch Urban Gardens site, the new facility addresses the challenge of limited greenhouse space that previously required farmers to travel long distances. The program, which lost significant federal funding, continues to thrive through community support and aims to provide a stable environment for farmers to start and grow their businesses. The greenhouse will serve as an incubator, offering space for seed starting and plant care, and includes a community-led food pantry.
