GHG Protocol and ISO Announce Consolidation of Carbon Accounting Standards to Boost Global Decarbonization
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) has announced a significant update to its corporate standards by consolidating its Scope 1, Scope 2, Scope 3, and Actions and Market Instruments (AMI) standards with the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) 14064-1 standard. This consolidation aims to create a single, harmonized global accounting standard, enhancing integration and efficiency for businesses and stakeholders. The move is part of the COP30 Action Agenda, which seeks to harmonize global greenhouse gas accounting standards. The consolidation is expected to unlock greater investment and accelerate global decarbonization efforts. The GHGP and ISO have planned an integrated public consultation on the future corporate standard for Q2 2027, following feedback from a recent public consultation on the Scope 2 standard.
