Maldives Search Efforts Intensify for Missing Italian Divers in Underwater Cave
In the Maldives, search operations are underway to locate four Italian divers believed to have perished in an underwater cave. The search, which has been hampered by rough weather, resumed on Saturday. The divers, including Monica Montefalcone, an ecology professor, and her daughter Giorgia Sommacal, were part of a group exploring a cave in Vaavu Atoll. The Italian Foreign Ministry is coordinating with the Divers Alert Network to support recovery operations. The cause of the incident is under investigation, and the Maldives tourism ministry has suspended the operating license of the vessel 'Duke of York' pending further inquiry. The cave, known for its complex structure, poses significant risks due to its depth and narrow passages.
