McCarty Family Farms, MVP Dairy, and Cargill Invest in Dairy Education with New Learning Exhibits

McCarty Family Farms has launched a new interactive dairy nutrition exhibit at the Judy McCarty Dairy Learning Center in Rexford, Kansas. A companion exhibit has also opened at the MVP Dairy Learning Center in Celina, Ohio. These initiatives, supported by the Cargill Cares Council, aim to educate students, families, and community members about animal nutrition's role in cow health, dairy farm performance, and milk quality. The learning centers have collectively hosted over 100,000 in-person and virtual visitors from all 50 states and more than 75 countries since their inception. Ken McCarty, co-owner of McCarty Family Farms and MVP Dairy, emphasized the family's commitment to helping people understand food origins and animal care. Cargill, a long-standing partner providing nutrition for the farms' cows, expressed pride in supporting these centers to connect communities with agriculture and inspire future generations.

Providence Public School District Shows Significant Progress in Math Instruction, TNTP Report Finds

A new report by TNTP (formerly The New Teacher Project) indicates that the Providence Public School District (PPSD) has established a stronger and more coherent foundation for math instruction. The report highlights that students are increasingly experiencing a common curriculum, consistent grade-level expectations, and uniform instructional practices across the district. This marks a significant improvement from a 2019 Johns Hopkins report, which identified low levels of academic instruction and a lack of quality curriculum and coherence within PPSD. The current findings show meaningful progress in instructional conditions and their positive impact on student achievement. Specifically, TNTP analyzed i-Ready data for students in grades 3-8 from SY 2022-23 through SY 2025-26, revealing that a large majority of students (87% in grades 3-5 and 82% in grades 6-8) who started the year on track remained on track. St. Olaf College Celebrates First Anniversary of Svoboda Center for Civic Engagement

St. Olaf College recently celebrated the first anniversary of its Svoboda Center for Civic Engagement, located in Tomson Hall. The center was established through a generous gift from Paul Svoboda '81, providing a dedicated space and resources for civic leadership and community engagement. According to Northfield Public Schools Superintendent Tim Anderson '97, while civic engagement has always been a core idea at St. Olaf, the Svoboda Center has given this work a "front door and a name." The center nurtures students' passion for public service and builds their capacity to engage in their communities through Academic Civic Engagement (ACE) courses, internships, volunteering, and research opportunities. University of Missouri Scientists Identify Key Factor in Age-Related Muscle Weakness, Proposing Reversible Treatment

Scientists at the University of Missouri, led by W. David Arnold, executive director of the NextGen Precision Health initiative, have identified a previously overlooked reason for age-related muscle strength decline, known as sarcopenia. Their research indicates that the communication between nerves and muscles becomes less reliable with age, contributing to this condition which affects nearly half of adults over 80. The study, published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation, found that lower levels of the protein NaV1.4, crucial for muscle response to nerve signals, are linked to this communication breakdown at the neuromuscular junction. This discovery challenges the long-held assumption that the neuromuscular junction remains reliable during aging. The team also identified a potential therapeutic target: by partially inhibiting a protein called ClC-1, they were able to improve the responsiveness of aging muscles to nerve signals and increase muscle strength in animal models.
