Chinati Foundation Initiates Major Restoration of Donald Judd's Artillery Sheds in Marfa, Texas
The Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas, has commenced a significant restoration project on Donald Judd's '100 untitled works in mill aluminum' housed within the artillery sheds. These sheds, originally used for military vehicles, were repurposed by Judd to display his art but have suffered from persistent leaks, extreme temperatures, and dust intrusion for decades. The restoration aims to address these structural issues while preserving Judd's artistic vision and the integrity of the delicate aluminum sculptures. The project involves a comprehensive approach, including a new roof structure to prevent leaks and improve drainage, the installation of an invisible film on windows to block harmful UV rays, and a positive pressurization system to circulate air and keep out dust.
