McAllen Law Firm Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Barratry Involving Car Crash Victim's Family
A lawsuit has been filed against the Almaraz Law Firm in McAllen, Texas, accusing the firm and two of its employees of engaging in barratry, or illegal solicitation of clients. The lawsuit, filed in March 2026 in Cameron County, claims that the employees attempted to solicit the family of Lorenzo Guajardo Jr., who died in a car crash in April 2025, by using a fake website and persistent communication. The lawsuit seeks $750,000 in damages and a jury trial. One of the employees, Heberto Lopez, was indicted on a barratry charge in November 2025. The lawsuit alleges that the employees used a fraudulent non-profit organization, TX Community Partners, as a cover to contact potential clients. The case has drawn attention due to the increased penalties for barratry offenses in Texas, which were raised from $10,000 to $50,000 in September 2025.
