Crowley Mariners Receive Gallant Ship Award for Heroic Actions During North Sea Collision
The crew of the U.S.-flagged tanker Stena Immaculate, managed by Crowley through a joint venture with Stena Bulk AB, has been honored with the U.S. Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) Gallant Ship Award. This prestigious award was presented during the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Maritime Day observance in Washington, D.C. The 23-member crew was recognized for their extraordinary professionalism, courage, and commitment to safety during a collision incident on March 10, 2025, in the North Sea. The tanker, which was anchored off the coast of Hull, United Kingdom, was struck by an oncoming ship. Despite the significant danger, the crew managed a disciplined and coordinated response, ensuring a safe evacuation without serious injury and preventing more severe damage to the vessel, its cargo, and the environment. The tanker was transporting jet fuel under charter to the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command and was part of MARAD’s Tanker Security Program.
