Hawaii Braces for Severe Weather with Statewide Closures
Governor Josh Green of Hawaii has announced significant weather-related closures and safety measures in anticipation of severe weather conditions expected to impact the state. According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain, flash flooding, and damaging winds are forecasted to affect all Hawaiian islands starting this weekend and continuing into early next week. In response, all state offices, Department of Education schools, University of Hawaii campuses, and state courthouses will be closed on Monday, February 9, 2026. The Governor has issued an Emergency Proclamation to mobilize state resources and support response efforts, effective through February 11, 2026. Residents are urged to prepare for possible flooding and high winds, and to follow instructions from local emergency officials.
