Connecticut Legislators and Banking Department Host Financial Fraud Bingo to Educate Seniors
State Representatives Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) and Martin Foncello (R-107), in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Banking, hosted a 'Financial Fraud Bingo' event at the Newtown Senior Center. This interactive forum aimed to educate seniors on how to identify and avoid financial exploitation. The event highlighted that imposter scams, identity theft, and online shopping scams are the top three reported scam categories in Connecticut. Legislators emphasized that seniors are frequently targeted due to their accumulated savings and retirement income. The program provided practical tips, such as avoiding calls from unknown numbers, using direct deposit for income to prevent check theft, and refraining from clicking suspicious links in text messages.
