Connecticut Immigration Rights Advocates Protest ICE Arrest Outside Meriden Courthouse
Immigrant rights advocates in Meriden, Connecticut, held a rally outside a courthouse following an arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The protest was sparked by an incident last week where ICE agents entered the courthouse and apprehended a man, as reported by Connecticut Public. Organizers and city residents chanted anti-ICE and pro-immigrant slogans, expressing their support for the immigrant community. Civil rights groups are currently investigating whether the ICE agents violated state law, specifically Connecticut's TRUST Act, by entering the courthouse and passing through a security area. Milagros Biroscak, a Meriden resident, emphasized the community's solidarity, stating, “They are our family, and we’re here to support them because we are not OK with what ICE is doing in these times.”
