Museum of Science to Unveil New Bloomberg Public Science Common in October
The Museum of Science in Boston is set to debut its new William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common on October 10, 2026. This state-of-the-art, 10,000-square-foot performance and presentation space, overlooking the Boston and Cambridge skylines, will serve as a central hub for public engagement with science and human ingenuity. The renovation was made possible by a $155 million donation from Bloomberg Philanthropies, the charitable foundation of former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg, whose parents the common is named after. The space is designed to be immersive and multi-use, featuring adjustable elements like movable walls, LED video screens, retractable seating, and advanced sound and lighting, including 3D projection mapping technology called Deep Space. Tim Ritchie, the museum's president, emphasized the goal of fostering a love and trust for science and addressing contemporary scientific issues such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and bioengineering.
