Missouri Voters Reject Republican-Backed Ballot Measures on Taxes and Legislative Power
In the recent primary elections, Missouri voters decisively rejected two Republican-backed ballot measures. Amendment 4, which aimed to make it more difficult for voters to bypass the Republican-led legislature, was opposed by 80% of voters. Similarly, Amendment 5, which proposed the elimination of state income taxes, was rejected by 83% of voters. These measures were part of a broader Republican strategy to counteract progressive policies that have been advanced through citizen-initiated ballot measures in recent years, such as Medicaid expansion and minimum wage increases.
