West Virginia School Clothing Voucher Program Faces Delays and Funding Issues
West Virginia's school clothing voucher program experienced significant delays and funding issues this year. Initially, applications were postponed on July 1, the day they were supposed to open, causing concern among families dependent on the program. The delay lasted nearly three weeks, and when applications finally opened on July 20, they closed just a week later due to depleted funds. The program, which is funded by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) fund, saw a reduction in the number of children receiving vouchers from approximately 57,000 last year to about 52,000 this year. State officials, including Treasurer Larry Pack, have criticized the handling of the program, calling for the governor to reopen applications and allocate more funds.
