Canada Mobilizes Military as British Columbia Wildfires Escalate
Canada has placed its military on standby to assist in battling severe wildfires in British Columbia, where a local mayor reported significant destruction in his community. The fires have resulted in one fatality and forced approximately 20,000 residents to evacuate. The Bald Range wildfire, in particular, has been difficult to control due to hot, windy weather and prolonged drought conditions. The Canadian Armed Forces are prepared to respond if requested, and the federal government has approved provincial requests for assistance with shelter and accommodations.
