NYPD Sergeant Erik Duran Posts $300K Bail, Set for Release Amid Manslaughter Appeal
Erik Duran, a former NYPD sergeant, is expected to be released from Elmira Correctional Facility after posting a $300,000 bail. Duran was convicted of second-degree manslaughter for fatally throwing a picnic cooler at Eric Duprey, a fleeing drug suspect, during an undercover sting operation in August 2023. The bail was secured by Ira Judelson, a well-known bail bondsman, following an appeals court decision allowing Duran to be released while his legal team works to overturn his conviction. Duran has been incarcerated since April 9, when Bronx Judge Guy Mitchell sentenced him to a controversial 3-to-9 year prison term.
